ms. phumzile mlambo-ngcuka, deputy president of the republic of south africa, visited tsinghua and delivered a speech entitled “the nature of the desired relation between china and south africa” on september 26.
in her speech, ms. mlambo-ngcuka reviewed the relations between china and south africa. “relations between south africa and china have been beneficial to both countries, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1998, which is why we will celebrate these relations next year in the china/south africa 10 year celebrations,” said ms. mlambo-ngcuka. “i am encouraged that our countries are committed to deepening cooperation and to grow bilateral relations in politics, the economy, trade and investment, technology, education, human resource development and tourism.”
ms. mlambo-ngcuka answered several questions from students after her speech.
tsinghua vice president xie weihe met and had a talk with ms. mlambo-ngcuka prior to the speech.
